Accessible Dispatch Driver of the Week: Meet Ignor!

A New Jersey native who drives in the city, Ignor loves being a taxi driver because it gives him the freedom to set his own schedule and spend time with his family.

“I’ve driven in New Jersey before, but honestly New York is where the money, and the entertainment, is at,” Ignor says.

Still, one of his funniest driving experiences is from back when he worked in New Jersey. He had picked up a fare at a hotel– a woman and her husband.

He dropped the man off at a casino, but as soon as he pulled away from the curb to take the woman to an outlet mall, she started laughing.

“She said that she has his wallet so he will not be gambling today. She is going to spend the money on herself and only herself,” Ignor recalls. Apparently, the husband’s gambling problem had been getting a little out of hand, so she had decided to intervene.

“When we arrived at the outlets, he called her and she said she was out of the cab and there was a huge line for a cab,” Ignor says. “All the while, she was sitting in my cab. I asked her if she wanted to go back, but she asked me to pick her up in two hours when she was done shopping.”

When they did return to the casino, the man was standing on the sidewalk looking forlorn. He told his wife that forgetting his wallet like that was a sure sign to stop gambling.

“To her it was a win/win situation. She got some nice stuff and he stopped gambling,” Ignor says.
