In order to celebrate the London 2012 Paralympic Games, the National Disability Sports Charity, WheelPower and the Smart Phone application called cab:app have joined forces aiming to make transportation more accessible for disabled people. Thus, cab:app added a Wheelchair Assistance button to its electronic taxi hailing app, a move that enables people with disabilities to make use of the famous London black cabs.
“By providing disabled people with a simple, fast and easy to use mobile phone app to hail black cabs, cab:app is transforming access to transport for many disabled people,” said Paul Rushton, Head of Fundrasing at WheelPower, in a statement.
In addition to the app, WheelPower and cab:app will donate to charity £1 from every cab:app ride that takes place during the Paralympics, which are set to begin on August 29th and conclude on September 9th.
Aware of the difficulties wheelchair users can face in London, WheelPower wants to significantly improve black cab travel for people with disabilities as a long-term plan.
